Some of the information below is provided directly from the Roblox Help Centre
Roblox is an entertainment platform that allows people to imagine, create, and play together across millions of user-created virtual worlds.
All the online games you see on the platform have been built by members of the Roblox community for members of the Roblox community. This means players themselves have created the world your child may be playing in. You can create theme parks, compete as a professional race car driver, star in a fashion show, become a superhero, or simply design a dream home and hang out with friends
1) Why do people play Roblox?
With it's similarities to the popular game, Minecraft, Roblox enables users to use their imagination and creativity to build their own little world within the game. This is extremely appealing to it's users and the characters and textures used within the game aid this appeal.
2) It's free, is there a catch?
Not quite a catch, but there are in game purchases within Roblox. This means you can buy things from within the game for real money. Make sure purchases can't occur without your authorisation, either by deleting your payments details from the account or by setting up a password / passcode to authorise the transaction. It doesn't take long for your child to run up a £500+ gaming bill without having any comprehension that they are spending your money.
3) What should I be worried about on Roblox?
There are two main concerns around Roblox, the first is the first content is user created, that means the very young users of Roblox may find some of the worlds they join disturbing or upsetting as per the picture below.
The second of the main concerns is around the older users on the game, interacting on Roblox is not essential but it adds to the game play and your child may want to speak with other players around them. There has been publicised concern around the use of Roblox by Sexual Predators in the past. The reality is, you can control this with the Parental Restrictions section of your child's account, so you are always in control if you know where to look.
4) What is the age restriction on Roblox?
The age rating for the game is 7
If your child has set their age to under 13, Roblox will place them on a restricted chat system automatically. This means that they will only be able to directly message and be messaged by other users who are on their 'Friend' list.
Roblox has a "Help Centre", within this is tips for parents which will give everything from the basics around the functions within the game to setting up the account to your liking
Although ROBLOX is suitable to play from ages 3 and up, like every game with a chat function, you must remain open to the fact that some users may be in their adult years. So always keep an eye on who is chatting to your child online
One of the best features in ROBLOX for parents is the option to completely disable the chat system so your child cannot be exposed to what everyone is saying on the game but still continue to play. Find our more here; ROBLOX CHAT HELP
