TikTok is a destination for short-form mobile videos. Tik Tok's mission is to capture and present the world’s creativity, knowledge, and precious life moments, directly from the mobile phone. TikTok enables everyone to be a creator, and encourages users to share their passion and creative expression through their videos.
1) Why do people use Tik Tok?
The users of Tik Tok find the features fun, creative and also use them as a tool to test out their acting skills, singing techniques and look for feedback or recognition from other users to either boost their confidence or looking to attract interest from people who may be able to put them in a better position professionally.
2) How can I keep my childs account private?
Users can control who can see their uploaded content, follow them, and send them messages by making their account private. With a private account, users can approve or deny followers and restrict their uploaded content and incoming messages to followers only.
If a user has a public profile, anyone signed into the TikTok app can view that user’s public videos. However, only approved followers can send that user a message.
Whether users choose to have a public or a private account, they can always:
block another from contacting them at any time
save a video privately so that content will not be viewable by any other user
Please remember: Even with a private account, profile information – including profile photo, username, and bio – will be visible to all users. Counsel your teen not to reveal personal information such as age, address, or phone number in his/her profile.
3) What are the dangers of Tik Tok?
Unfortunately the reality of Tik Tok is that although users innocently post video's of themselves, some younger users post video's wearing little clothing or expressing vulnerabilities in their emotions to which some sinister users may use to target or groom those users. There is a very easy process to report this, if it is spotted though.
4) What is the age restriction for Tik Tok?
Although this app have replaced "Musical.ly" which had an age restriction of 12, Tik Tok have increased this to 13. There was a strong suggestion it should be for 16+ year olds but after research they realised the average age of their users were a lot lower, so they moderate the app to accommodate 13 and up.

Can I prevent my teen from downloading TikTok?
You are encouraged to oversee your teen’s internet use, including any apps they may download. Both iOS and Android provide parental controls that let you block or limit specific apps, features, movies, music, and more at the device level.
Because TikTok is for users 13 and over, it's been given it a strict 12+ app store rating. This allows you to use these device-parental controls to simply block the app from your underage child’s phone. Please see the Apple App Store or Google Play Store instructions for more on parental controls (or “restrictions”) and how to enable them.
