ASKfm is a global social network where you can ask anyone your burning questions, anonymously or publicly.
1) Why is ASK.fm used?
Want to know more about your best friend or your crush? Looking for good advice on how to handle life's little challenges? Just want to ask an inspiring person you've never met on the other side of the world about their lives? Go for it! Others will ask you in return, about anything. The more interesting your answers, the more your follower ship will grow.
But here's what's unique - you and only you are in control on which questions are answered and show up on your profile. Can't think of a good answer? Movin' on. Unanswered questions will not appear on your profile. But on the other side, everything that you do answer, is public. It's like your personal answer blog. We thought that's pretty cool.
2) What are the risks associated?
Anonymous posting poses it's usual risks. ASK.fm have strict rules around how you conduct yourself and you can easily report someone (see below). This said, this takes someone coming forward and doing this. There have been some tragic cases of suicide linked to the use and abuse suffered through ASK.fm in the past.
3) Can I stop my child from receiving anonymous questions?
Yes. All your child has to do is edit the privacy settings for the account, and choose not to allow anonymous questions:
On web or mobile browsers, open the “Settings” menu,
On your mobile, open the “Profile” section in the “Settings” menu.
4) Can I monitor what my child is doing?
Generally, no. ASK.fm is anonymous and this effectively hides everyone's identity, there are no tricks or backdoor around this. The only way you may get a chance, is knowing your child's login details and looking with them for yourself.
5) What are the best ways to keep safe?
Access the Help Centre linked in the safety advice section, avoid answering "dodgy" or leading questions and remember if you avoid unanswered questions, they never appear for anyone to see.
Remember: ALL content (once answered) on ASKfm is completely public!
You cannot find out who’s behind that anon question or answer. Anonymous means just that: There are no trackers or apps that can reveal anonymous users (even if they claim to)
